Stains in marble and stone. Out, mostly, with patience.
Most come out. Oil and organic stains lift with a poultice; rust and deep-set dye are the hard cases and are quoted after a look.

What it is.
A stain is different from an etch mark: something has gone into the pores of the stone rather than dissolved the surface.
Oil, wine, coffee, cosmetics and rust from a metal can are the usual culprits.
Oil and most organic stains are drawn out with a poultice, which is a paste left on the stone for a day or two to pull the stain back out the way it went in. Some need a second application. Rust and some dyes bond with the stone and may lighten rather than vanish, and we say so before starting. Stains on travertine often sit in open pores that need filling once the stain is out.
How it is priced.
Simple stains are a small addition to a restoration. Difficult stains are quoted separately after we have seen a photo.
